Port-au-Prince, Haiti (AP) - agency US Government announced a mortgage loan program aimed at helping up to 4,000 families in Haiti.
The U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation, said that the effort will combine loans and CIPO grants from other groups. Got money include mortgages of $1,000. Funding will also receive repairs.
Many people still need to repair their houses, three years after that, Haiti was struck by an earthquake. 2010 Disaster toppled thousands of buildings and killed thousands of people.
The House funding is relatively new in Haiti. The majority of the population is unemployed or underemployed and banks rarely offer loans to anyone but the tiny country's elite. Most of the 10 million Haitian are tenants.
CIPO has made the announcement Monday.
